Geography: Located at the mouth of the Elbe River with access to the North Sea in northern Germany.  
History:  Hamburg is the second largest German city, the country’s principal seaport and its largest overseas trading center. Its recorded history begins in the ninth century with the construction of the moated fortress Hammaburg. In the 12th century, Hamburg developed into a wealthy trading city, establishing a stock exchange in 1558.
Industry:  Service oriented industries, advertising, international & foreign trade.
Did you know? Hamburg’s famously busy port covers more than 12 percent of the whole city and processes more than 78 million tons of goods through it every year.
Flag Description: The German flag is a is a tricolor consisting of three equal horizontal  bands displaying the national colors of Germany: black, red and gold.

The Hamburg Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International and The Goethe Institut Chicago co-hosted their annual international exchanges panel for teachers involved in Chicago-Hamburg school exchanges. The purpose of the panel was to share information and best practices.
